Open positions
There are often opportunities for postdocs, graduate students, and
undergraduates to join the group. Our work
centers around the theory of ultracold AMO systems, emergent quantum
many-body behavior, and quantum information and computation. This ranges from strongly correlated phases of matter, to
novel
nonequilibrium dynamics, to utilizing correlations for precision measurements
and quantum computation, and more.
We collaborate with Rice's AMO experimental groups -- Randy Hulet,
Tom Killian,
Barry Dunning, and Guido Pagano --
as well as with the other
AMO and
condensed matter theorists, others at Rice, especially in the Rice Quantum Initiative, and with collaborators
elsewhere. Our research interests and
publications pages have more information.
I welcome applications
from potential postdocs with diverse physics backgrounds. For example,
whether your expertise is numerical (including, for example, DMRG, MPS, or QMC
methods) or analytic, and whether your
background is AMO, quantum optics, quantum information, or condensed matter, there are
possibilities for exciting work. Postdocs with external funding and visitors are
also welcome. We can help you develop proposals for external funding.
For undergraduate students, projects are possible at all levels -- from
beginners to those writing a senior thesis. It
is helpful to have undergraduate quantum or statistical physics and some basic
knowledge with programming, for example in Mathematica, C++, Python, or Matlab, but
exceptions are possible.
